I’ve been coding up some tools to help storytelling in Ren’Py. This is a class (actually two) for items that change as they are used.

A devlog of sorts for a game Matt is making. Expect art, music, code, questions, and the odd reflection.

I now have Ren’Py up and running on my Ubuntu gaming PC. It took me long enough.
Now, I can start drafting code.
I’m looking for Creative Commons or public domain audio samples – especially ambient, nature, and industry sounds. Do any of the lovely Interwebs folk know where I might find such things?
I find talking about my ideas helps me clarify and develop them. I was using ChatGPT to talk through my ideas. This was, on the whole, a useful exercise. There was one small problem.
Chat is far too keen to praise my ideas even when they are objectively bad. I think, perhaps, what I need to do is blog my ideas and hope you lovely people give me real human feedback. There’s a better chance of being called out on my mistakes.
I’m working on a new tune. I’m aiming for an ambient EDM sort of thing at 128BPM. I’ve made use of forths in a minor key and played with samples, sound fonts, and synth settings I have not tried before.
You can now follow The Endless Rooms on Author Buzz UK.
I’m not sure how to feel about this. I asked ChatGPT if it knew about this project. It did. I asked it to draw an image in the style of this project.
It gave me this thing:

Like, sure, it gets the concepts, but this is nothing like my art style.
THIS is my style:

For reasons that might never become entirely clear, I would like your help in compiling a list of loved but obscure movies because I am working on something.
In The Endless Rooms, some doors are locked. I figured it would be fun to have a big, heavy, and complicated machine that acts as the lock. This is a quick sketch, ink, and colour of one idea for that lock.

Today I watched this video on 2d art for games and took many notes.
